USED Towboat Patrol

Sternwheel Towboat/Packet:
  • Hull and cabin built at Sewickley, PA. and completed at James Rees & Sons, Pittsburgh, PA. in 1883
  • Launched in 1883
  • Delivered to the Mississippi River Commission in 1883
  • Rebuilt at Jeffersonville, IN. in 1895 (130.7 x 28 x 4.8.)
  • Turned over to the US Army Engineering Dept in 1906
  • Christened, commissioned and placed in service as USED Towboat Patrol in 1906
  • Assigned to the US Army Engineers St. Louis District in 1906
  • USED Patrol worked on the Mississippi River, Red River and Cumberland River
  • Retired from US Army service circa 1913
  • Sold at public auction in 1913 to Cumberland River Transportation Co. for service as a packet and towboat
  • Final Disposition, stranded in the Harmons Shoals, below Burnside, KY. on 8 September 1918, total loss
