USACE Gerig


Seagoing Hopper Dredge:
  • Built in 1946-47, at Ingalls Shipbuilding Corp., Pascagoula, MS.
  • Launched, in 1947
  • Delivered 1947 and placed in commission by the US Army Corps of Engineers, as USACE Gerig
  • Named in honor of William Lee Gerig, a civil engineer who worked on railroads and dams in both the United States and abroad, including his service as chief engineer for the construction of the Panama Canal. By the end of his career, he had consulted on every dam built in the United States from 1923 to 1938.
  • Assigned to US Army Corps of Engineers New Orleans District
  • Decommissioned, date unknown
  • Final Disposition, scrapped in 1991
