  • Completed, 17 February 1983 under a subcontract by Bath Iron Works, Bath, Maine
  • Delivered and placed in service as USACE Dredge Essayons in 1983
  • Assigned to the US Army Corps of Engineers Portland District
  • Essayons, operated by a merchant marine crew, helps maintain the entrance bars, rivers and harbors on the coasts of California, Oregon, Hawaii, Alaska and, in emergencies, the Mississippi River. Because of its size and dredging depth, Essayons is particularly well-suited for dredging the larger coastal entrances and larger volume sand deposits in river channels.

During the dredge season of 2020, Essayons removed over 2,000,000 CY of sediment from the Columbia River. In 2021 Essayons will spent approx. 50 days (April-Sept 2021) dredging the lower Columbia River ports of Longview, Kalama, Woodland, Vancouver and Portland.
