  • Laid down, 6 April 1944, as SS Thomas LeValley, a Maritime Commission type (EC2-S-C1) hull, under Maritime Commission contract (MCE hull 2295), at Jones Panama City yard, Panama City, FL.
  • Launched, 16 May 1944
  • Delivered, 20 July 1944, to the War Shipping Administration and simultaneously transferred to the War Department
  • Converted to an Aircraft Repair Ship at Mobile Air Tactical Command Brookley Field, Mobile, AL Commissioned, Maj. Gen. Walter R. Weaver (ARU(F)-3)
  • During World War II Maj. Gen. Walter R. Weaver provided support facilities for the US Army Air Force at Saipan and Iwo Jima
  • Returned, 3 May 1946 to the War Shipping Administration for lay up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, James River Group, Lee Hall, VA.
  • Final Disposition, sold for scrapping, 27 February 1970, to S.P.A. Cantieri Navali (PD-X-857 dated 27 February 1970) for $470,500.00 (four ship sale), withdrawn, 1 May 1970

    Namesake

    Walter Reed Weaver (February 23, 1885 – October 27, 1944) was a career officer in the United States Army. He attained the rank of Major General and was prominent for serving in several United States Army Air Forces command positions during World War II.
