  • Laid down, 7 January 1944, as SS Rebecca Lukens, a Maritime Commission type (EC2-S-C1) hull, under Maritime Commission contract (MCE hull 1551), at J.A. Jones Construction, Panama City, FL.
  • Launched, 4 March 1944
  • Delivered, 10 April 1944, to the War Shipping Administration and transferred to the the War Department
  • Converted to an Aircraft Repair Ship at Mobile Air Tactical Command Brookley Field, Mobile, AL
  • Commissioned, Maj. Gen. Herbert A. Dargue (ARU(F)-2) Col. William McCraw USAAF in command
  • During World War II Maj. Gen. Herbert A. Dargue provided support facilities for the US Army Air Force at Saipan and Iwo Jima
  • Returned, 3 February 1946 to the War Shipping Administration for lay up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, James River Group, Lee Hall, VA.
  • Final Disposition, sold for scrapping, 3 September 1970, to Horton Industries, Inc. (PD-X-880) for $41,330.00, withdrawn, 21 September 1970
