Montauk (SP 392)

Sunk 21 August 1918

Trawler:

  • The second Montauk was built in 1880 at Kennebunk, ME
  • Rebuilt in 1905 at Wilmington, DE
  • Acquired by the Navy 17 August 1917
  • Driven ashore in a gale and sunk 21 August 1918 off Cumberland Island, GA, approximately 20 miles from Fernandina, FL and struck from the Navy Register.

    Specifications:

  • Displacement 161 t.
  • Length 121'
  • Beam 19'
  • Draft 10'
  • Speed 8 kts.
  • Complement 24
  • Propulsion: One 175hp vertical simple expansion, one shaft.
