Uniontown served the Navies of the United States and Argentina.

Tacoma Class Patrol Frigate:

  • (MC Type T. S2-S2-AQ1) Originally authorized as Patrol Gunboat, PG-173
  • Reclassified as a Patrol Frigate, PF-65, 15 April 1943
  • Laid down 21 April 1943 under Maritime Commission contract (MC hull 1489) at Leathem D. Smith Shipyard, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin
  • Launched as Chattanooga 7 August 1943
  • Renamed Uniontown 16 August 1944 to free the name Chattanooga for the Light Cruiser, CL-118
  • Commissioned USS Uniontown (PF-65), 6 October 1944 at New Orleans, LA
  • Decommissioned 20 December 1945 at Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth VA
  • Struck from the Naval Register 8 January 1946
  • Turned over to the State Department, Foreign Liquidation Commission
  • Sold in July 1947 to Argentina, renamed ARA Sarandi (P 33) and served until 1968
    Naval Vessel Register of 1 January 1949 lists sale date as June 1946
  • Dropped from Jane's Fighting Ships by 1982
  • Fate unknown.

  • Armament: Three 3"/50 dual purpose gun mounts, two twin 40mm gun mounts, nine 20mm guns, one Hedgehog depth charge projector, eight Y-gun depth charge projectors, and two depth charge tracks
    After 3-inch gun was removed in June 1945 and a weather balloon hanger was added. Armament in Argentine Navy was two 4.1" mounts, eight 40mm mounts, one Hedgehog and six depth
    charge tracks
  • Propulsion: Two 3-drum express boilers, two 5,500 iHP Valley Iron Works engines, two shafts.
