HM MGB 88 heading for home towing the captured German S-boat S 111, 15 March 1942. The S-boat was boarded after an engagement with enemy light forces 20 miles off the Dutch coast, on 14 March 1942, by three MGBs of the 7th MGB Flotilla (Senior Officer Lt. J.B.R. Horne, RN) in MGB 88. Unfortunately the captured enemy craft had to be abandoned after four S-boats were sighted out on the horizon and approaching at speed. S-111 eventually sank with the White Ensign still flying, her bow well down and her three rudders and propellers shamelessy exposed for all the world to see Photo was probably taken from either MGB 87 (C.O. Lt. S.B. Bennett, RNVR) or MGB 91 (C.O. Sub-Lt. P.A.R. Thompson, RCNVR), from "The Battle of the Narrow Sea" by the late Lieutenant-Commander Peter Scott, MBE, DSC & Bar, RNVR |
