80' Elco Motor Torpedo Boat:

  • Laid down 5 November 1942 by the Electric Boat Co., Elco Works, Bayonne, NJ
  • Launched 19 January 1943
  • Completed 4 February 1943, placed in service and assigned to Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron ELEVEN (PTRon 11) under the command of Lt. Comdr. Leroy T. Taylor, USN
  • PTRon 11, assigned to the South Pacific, had action at Rendova, Vella Lavella, Bougainville, and Emirau. Transferred to the Southwest Pacific in June 1944, the squadron had action at Morotai, in the Halmaheras. It also based for
    a time at Mios Woendi, Dutch New Guinea, but had no action from that base
  • The "Pogie Bait", ex-"Dynamite" was placed out of service 11 November 1945, stripped and destroyed by U.S. Forces at Samar, Philippines.

    In April 1945, PT-184 Had the newer SO-3 Radar installed and the stern 20mm Mk-10 was replaced with a new 40mm BOFORS. The additional weight of the BOFORS and ammunition made it necessary to remove the two aft Mk-13 Torpedoes
