YMS-153 was built for Great Britian

YMS-1 Class Auxiliary Motor Minesweeper:

  • Laid down 7 August 1942 as YMS-153 by the Campbell Machine Co., San Diego, CA
  • Launched 31 July 1943
  • Completed, transferred to Great Britian 23 November 1943 and reclassified HM J-953
  • Reclassified HM BYMS-2153
  • Returned to U.S. custody 3 July 1946
  • Struck from the Naval Register 17 July 1947
  • Destroyed in March 1948.

  • Length 136'
  • Beam 24' 6"
  • Draft 8'
  • Speed 15 kts.
  • Complement 32
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, two 20mm mounts, and two depth charge projectors
  • Propulsion: Two 880bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
