  • Laid down, date unknown, at Gunderson Marine, Portland, OR
  • Launched, date unknown
  • Delivered and placed in service in 1960
  • During the Vietnam War LCU-1623 served in the combat area
  • Converted, date unknown, to an Auxiliary Swimmer Delivery Vehicle, redesignated ASDV-2
  • ASDV-2, was outfitted with a port side deck house, a 25 ton crane and a hyperbaric chamber, in support of SEAL/UDT Swimmer Delivery Vehicle operations training
  • During the 1980's and 1990's ASDV-2 was assigned to Naval Special Warfare Unit four (NSWU4), Roosevelt Roads Naval Station, Puerto Rico.
  • ASDV-2 provided mission support all types of special warfare training. The vessel operated with a regular navy crew and was augmented by SEALS during certain training evolutions.

    LCT-1623 55k ASDV-2 at anchor on the eastern side of the Caribbean island of Dominica in 1986. SEALS on board performed a demolition job to make a channel through the reef for local fishermen.     LCT-1623 45k ASDV-2 moored, at Naval Base Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, late-1989, where a pier crane picked up the new pilot house and put it in place and raised the mast. ASDV-2 had just completed a yard period (improved pilot house) and had been transported back to the Caribbean from Norfolk in the well deck of USS Whidbey Island (LSD-41).
