LCT(5)-398 was transferred under terms of the Lend-Lease Act to the United Kingdom
Landing Craft Tank (Mark 5) Class:
  • Laid down in December 1942 at Mount Vernon Bridge Co., Mount Vernon, OH.
  • Launched in December 1942
  • LCT-398 never saw service with the US Navy
  • Delivered and transferred, 10 February 1943, to Great Britain under the Lend-Lease program, redesignated HM LCT-2398
  • Struck from the Naval Register, 9 June 1944
  • Final Disposition, lost when the American Liberty ship SS William C. Gorgas, while in Convoy HX228, New York/Halifax to UK, was first torpedoed by U-444 and finally sunk by U-757 in the North Atlantic, 11 March 1943
