LCI-47 155k At 1630 on 15 August 1944 USS LCI(L)-47 beached on Red Beach (Alpha) off Southern France. There, she offloaded her complement of 126 replacement troops of the Third Division taken onboard at Pozzuoli, Italy six days before. Less than 15 minutes later, she received 152 German POW's and their seven US Army guards for transport to Naples, Italy. These represented a relative handful of the 7,000 Nazis captured during the opening days of the invasion of Southern France. They were uneventfully delivered two days later.
