CDR Bowman is a native of Owensboro, Kentucky and is the son of a retired Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer. He reported to Recruit Training Command Orlando, Florida in November of 1989. He served in Fighter Squadron 101 (VF-101) and in USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN-69) where he earned the rank of AO1 (AW). He was selected to the Enlisted Commissioning Program and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice & Criminology from the University of Maryland in July 1999.
At sea, he served onboard USS BATAAN (LHD-5) as Gunnery Officer and 2nd Division Officer. Following selection for department head via the Early Roller program, CDR Bowman served as Operations Officer in USS TORTUGA (LSD-46). He then took command of PC Crew GOLF. As Commanding Officer of USS SIROCCO (PC-6), he deployed in support of oil platform defense.
Ashore, CDR Bowman served as Flag Lieutenant to Commander Amphibious Group Two; EA to Seamanship & Navigation Instructor at the United States Naval Academy; Placement Officer, Bureau of Naval Personnel; Amphibious Module Instructor, Tactical Training Group Atlantic.
He earned his Masters of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College. He reported as Executive Officer on USS OAK HILL (LSD-51) in August 2013.
CDR Bowman’s decorations include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (seven awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), Navy Good Conduct Medal (three awards) and various campaign and service awards.
CDR Bowman and his wife Stacy have two sons, Jacob and Benjamin.
