USS Ashland (LSD-48)



CDR. Steven H. Wasson, USN
Commanding Officer

CDR Steven Wasson is a native of Oklahoma City, OK and commissioned from OCS in Pensacola, FL., in 1999. He graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1996. He has served aboard ships in the Pacific and Atlantic Fleets.

Afloat, CDR Wasson was assigned to the Norfolk, VA based Amphib USS SHREVEPORT (LPD-12) as the Auxiliary Officer. His next tour was as Combat Information Center Officer onboard USS NASHVILLE (LPD-13) also homeported in Norfolk, VA. His first department head tour was as the Operations Officer onboard USS ROBERT G. BRADLEY (FFG-49) out of Mayport, FL. Following BRADLEY, his second department head tour was as the Training Officer onboard USS ESSEX (LHD-2) homeported in Sasebo, JA. He was selected for Commander Command and served as Executive Officer on USS ASHLAND (LSD-48) in Sasebo, JA before fleeting up to take command of USS ASHLAND (LSD-48).

Ashore, CDR Wasson was assigned to Afloat Training Group Atlantic, in Norfolk, VA., where he earned a Master of Science in Management and Information Systems while attending Troy University. His next shore assignment was as the Flag Secretary for Commander, Amphibious Force U.S. Seventh Fleet, in Okinawa, JA. Following this tour, he reported to OPNAV in the N5 Strategy and Policy division and then at NAVSEA with Surface Ship Modernization.

CDR Wasson’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards) and various unit and campaign awards.
