Afloat, Captain Quin also served in a variety of division officer billets in USS CALLAGHAN (DDG 994); as fire control officer in USS LAKE ERIE (CG 70); as weapons and combat systems department head in USS PHILIPPINE SEA (CG 58); and as executive officer in USS SHILOH (CG 67), USS CAPE ST. GEORGE (CG 71), and USS ESSEX (LHD 2).
He has deployed to the western Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean, Arabian Gulf, and Mediterranean Sea, and participated in United Nations sanctions enforcement in the Arabian Gulf, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Unified Assistance (the 2004-2005 tsunami relief effort in Indonesia), and Operation Inherent Resolve.
Ashore, Captain Quin served as maritime homeland defense officer in the operations directorate (J-3) of the Joint Staff, as deputy executive assistant and Flag aide to the commander of the U.S. THIRD Fleet, and as combat systems officer (N65) on the Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet, staff. He also participated in the Office of the Secretary of Defense/Joint Staff intern program and served in the Joint Staff’s systems integration division (J-6V). In 2013, he was the senior technical advisor for Season 1 of “The Last Ship,” a TNT television program.
Captain Quin’s awards include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Joint Commendation Medal, Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Joint Achievement Medal, Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (with four bronze stars), Expert Rifle Medal, Expert Pistol Medal, and various other personal and unit decorations.
