CAPT. Sean R. Bailey, USN
Commanding Officer
Captain Sean R. Bailey is a native of Lansing, Kansas and a 1991 graduate of the University of Kansas, earning his commission through the Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC). He attended Naval Flight Officer Training in Pensacola, Florida and following initial training in the F-14 he reported to the "Sluggers," (later redesignated the "Jolly Rogers"_ of VF-103. In addition to VF-103, CAPT Bailey's F-14 squadron tours include VF-14, and VF-213 and deployments onboard USS SARATOGA (CV 60), USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) and USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71). While deployed, CAPT Bailey participated in Operations Deny Flight, Southern Watch, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.
CAPT Bailey's shore assignments include an instructor tour at VF-101, attending the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, and the NATO Staff of Allied Joint Command Lisbon, in Oeiras, Portugal. In 2007, CAPT Bailey reported to VFA-122 to begin transition training to the F/A-18F. He joined the "Bounty Hunters" of VFA-2 as the Executive Officer in August 2008 and in November 2009, CAPT Bailey assumed command of VFA-2 leading the Bounty Hunters through a compressed training cycle and combat deployment with Carrier Air Wing 2 onboard USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72), supporting both Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation New Dawn.
In 2011,
CAPT Bailey reported to the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command in Charleston, South Carolina for Nuclear Power School and Prototype TRaining. Following A1B training and Naval Reactors, CAPT Bailey reported as the first Executive Officer of PRECOMMISSIONING UNIT GERALD R. FORD (CVN 78) in Newport News, Virginia, where he served until January 2015. In June 2015, CAPT Bailey assumed command of USS ARLINGTON (LPD 24).
Captain Bailey's personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device, and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device. CAPT Bailey has flown over 3700 hours in the F-14 and F/A-18F and has logged over 970 arrested carrier landings.
