Captain Ilteris’ Division Officer sea tours include USS CLEVELAND (LPD 7), serving as OI Division Officer. While onboard he participated in RIMPAC ’98, and deployed to the Arabian Gulf. His second Division Officer tour was onboard USS HUE’ CITY (CG 66) as the Engineering Maintenance and Training Officer. During this tour, the ship deployed with USS JOHN F. KENNEDY Battle Group in response to the 9-11 attacks in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
His first Department Head tour was onboard USS TORTUGA (LSD 46) as Chief Engineer. There he deployed to the SOUTHCOM AOR where the ship participated in UNITAS naval exercises. For his second Department Head tour, Captain Ilteris served onboard USS GUARDIAN (MCM 5) as Executive Officer, completing an independent deployment to the South China Sea and Indian Ocean.
Following his Department Head tours, Captain Ilteris attended the Naval War College, in Newport, RI, where he earned a Masters Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies. Upon graduation he reported to the United States Strategic Command, Omaha Nebraska and was assigned to the J35, Current Operations Plans Division. Captain Ilteris then reported to USS HARPERS FERRY as Executive Officer in July 2011 and assumed command in November 2013. As Commanding Officer, he deployed with the 13th MEU to the Western Pacific and Arabian Gulf including a key Theater Security Cooperation visit to Goa, India.
Following his Command tour, he attended the U.S. Army War College, Carlisle Barracks. Upon graduation, he reported to Surface Warfare Officers School as an instructor and later as Executive Officer. In June 2017, Captain Ilteris reported to Amphibious Squadron SIX as the first east coast Chief Staff Officer. As part of PHIBRON SIX, embarked onboard USS KEARSARGE (LHD 3), he deployed to the Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea and Arabian Gulf. Captain Ilteris’ decorations and awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal(3), Navy Commendation Medal(2), and Navy Achievement Medal.
