Sternwheel Steamer Tinclad No.51):
  • Laid down in 1861 as the sternwheel steamboat Maria at Cincinnati, OH.
  • Purchased by the Navy, 10 February 1864,
  • Commissioned USS Fairy circa 10 March 1864, Acting Master H. S. Wetmore in command
  • Homeported at Mound City, Il., Fairy patrolled and performed convoy duty in the Mississippi, White, and Tennessee Rivers providing transportation and firepower to Army expeditions, and shelling Confederate troop concentrations and batteries ashore
  • In June 1864 she was assigned to carry high ranking Army officers from Memphis to New Orleans
  • On patrol in the Tennessee River in December 1864 and January 1865, she convoyed Army transports from Clifton to Eastport, and participated in operations against Confederate General J.B. Hoods preventing them from crossing the river near Florence
  • After the war she transported ordnance stores to Jefferson Barracks, Mo.
  • Decommissioned, 8 August 1865, at Mound City
  • Sold 17 August 1865
