  • Laid down in 1862 at the Confederate Naval Works, Selma, AL.
  • Launched, 7 February 1863
  • Delivered and commissioned USS Huntsville, 1 August 1863, at Mobile while only partially armored and fitted out with defective engines and incomplete armament
  • Huntsville was assigned to guard the waters around Mobile
  • After the Battle of Mobile Bay Huntsville escaped up the Spanish River, on 5 August 1864
  • Final Disposition, scuttled to prevent capture, 12 April 1865, following the surrender of the city of Mobile
