Commissioned USS Chenango, 29 February 1864, LCDR. T. S. Fillebrown in command
Chenango was initially assigned to the South Atlantic Blockading Squadron, departing New York for Hampton Roads 15 April 1864
A boiler explosion and subsequent fire before reaching the open sea required the ship to be towed back to New York for repairs
Decommission, 21 April 1864
Recommissioned 1 February 1865
Chenango departed New York 17 February 1865, joining the South Atlantic Blockading Squadron at Charleston, S.C., 20 February 1865
Chenango operated in the Charleston area as well as along the Georgia coast, and on 25 February captured the blockade runner Elvira
On 9 March 1865 Chenango engaged a Southern force at Brown's Ferry on the Big Black River. One of her men was wounded in this exchange of fire
Chenango cleared Charleston, 16 May 1865, making Philadelphia, 20 May with USS Cambridge in tow
USS Chenango decommissioned, 1 July 1865, at Philadelphia and was sold 28 October 1868
