  • Laid down, as the wooden two-masted schooner Blunt, date and location unknown
  • Acquired by the Navy at New York, 23 November 1861, renamed G. W. Blunt
  • Commissioned USS G. W. Blunt, 4 December 1861, Acting Master Henry Sherwood in command
  • During the Civil War USS G. W. Blunt was assigned to the South Atlantic Blockading Squadron as a mail and dispatch boat and as part of the Blockading Squadron off Charleston, S.C.
    Captured schooner Wave, 19 April 1862
    While off Charleston USS G. W. Blunt assisted in the capturing several blockade runners
  • Decommissioned, 13 May 1863, at Philadelphia, PA., for repairs
  • Recommissioned, 2 June 1863, rejoining the Blockading Squadron off Charleston
  • Fitted with diving equipment for Salvage Duty in August 1864
  • G. W. Blunt worked on numerous wrecks at Charleston and cleared obstructions while at Savannah in March 1865
  • Decommissioned, 16 August 1865, at Port Royal
  • Sold at Port Royal, 20 October 1865
  • Final Disposition, fate unknown
