USS General Taylor


Sidewheel Steamer:
  • Purchased by the War Department in 1840 and served as transport ship during the Seminole War
  • Transferred to the Navy in 1842
  • Converted to a tug in 1845 operating from Pensacola Naval Yard
  • Burned to the waterline 1846 then rebuilt with new machinery to original dimensions
  • Served as dispatch vessel until April 1852 when she was sold at public auction
