  • Transferred from the Light House Board, 19 January 1862
  • Commissioned USS Granite in January 1862, Acting Master's Mate Ephraim Boomer in command
  • USS Granite was assigned in North Atlantic Blockading Station in the North Carolina Sounds
  • On 7-8 February 1862 Granite participated in the Federal land-sea expedition take Roanoke Island and capture control of the North Carolina sound region and its Outer Banks. The force was under the joint command of Brig. Gen. Ambrose Burnside and navy Flag-Officer Louis Goldsborough.
  • For the remainder of the Civil War, she operated in the sounds of North Carolina
  • Decommissioned at Washington, D.C., 29 June 1865 and was returned to the US Lighthouse Service
  • Final Disposition, sold in Philadelphia in December 1866
