Sidewheel Steamer:
  • Built, New York in 1859 by Thomas Collyer for the Stamford Line of Stamford, Connecticut.
  • Launched, date unknown
  • Purchased, 30 July 1862, for the Navy from the New York prize count by RADM. H. Paulding for $32,800
  • Fitted out at New York Navy Yard, Brooklyn, N.Y. ;
  • Commissioned USS Ella, 10 August 1862, at New York Navy Yard, Acting Master S. C. Gray in command
  • USS Ella sailed 12 August 1862 for duty with the Potomac Flotilla, and arrived at Fortress Monroe 2 days later
  • Ella performed her entire service in Virginia waters as a picket, patrol and dispatch boat, based on the Washington, D.C. Navy Yard After a useful career, she returned to the Washington D.C. Navy Yard for the last time, 30 July 1865
  • Ella decommissioned 4 August 1865 at Washington, D.C. Navy Yard
  • Sold at public sale, 15 September 1865
  • Final Disposition, fate unknown.
