In 1862 Althea is mentioned in dispatches as a resupply ship carrying coal and provision to to the warships of the West Gulf Blockading Squadron
In February 1863 she is reported as carrying messages to blockading vessels stationed along the coast of Texas and resupplying them with coal
In November 1863 she is reported as carrying provisions to the warships of the South Atlantic Blockading Squadron off Charleston, S.C.
