South Carolina Class Ship of the Line / Receiving Ship:
  • One of nine, 74-gun warships authorized by Congress, 29 April 1816
  • Laid down in September 1818 at Boston Navy Yard, Boston, MA.
  • Completed circa 1825; and kept on the stocks until finally launched
  • Launched, 15 September 1848
  • Vermont remained in ordinary at Boston Navy Yard until commissioned, 30 January 1862, as a stores and receiving ship., CDR. Augustus S. Baldwin in command
  • Following service at Port Royal, during the Civil War USS Vermont was assigned to the New York Navy Yard, 25 July 1864
  • Condemned and struck from the Naval Register, 19 December 1901
  • Sold to the state of New York, fate unknown
