USS Nantasket


Swatara-class Steam Screw Sloop-of-War:
  • Laid down in 1864, at Boston Navy Yard, Boston, MA.
  • Launched, 15 August 1867
  • Commissioned USS Nantasket, 22 October 1869, LCDR. F. M. Bunce, USN in command.
  • Nantasket was assigned to the North Atlantic Squadron, stationed at Samana Bay, Santo Domingo, for the next two years
  • While based at this island, she made numerous short voyages carrying messages to American officials on various islands in the Caribbean occasionally she also carried officials as passengers
  • She continued this duty until 30 April 1872
  • Nantasket depart Samana Bay 5 June, sailing to Key West, arriving 8 June
  • She continued on to Portsmouth, N.H. Navy Yard where she was decommissioned and remained in ordinary
  • Struck from the Naval Vessel Register 22 July 1875 and sold in 1883
  • Final Disposition, fate unknown
