USS Frank Cable (AS-40)

Captain Jeff Bierley USN
Commanding Officer

CAPT. Jeff Bierley graduated from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. He also holds master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School and National Security Studies from the Naval War College.

He commanded USS Seawolf (SSN 21) where he deployed to the U.S. Sixth Fleet area of responsibility and surfaced through the ice at the North Pole. During his tour, the crew earned the COMSUBDEVRON FIVE Battle Efficiency “E” award in 2014 and 2015. He served as Executive Officer on USS City of Corpus Christi (SSN 705) where he completed a Guam mission cycle. During this tour the crew earned the COMSUBRON FIFTEEN Battle Efficiency “E” award for 2009. He served as engineer officer on USS Ohio (SSGN 726) for the first of the class engineered refueling overhaul and SSGN conversion and USS Helena (SSN 725) where he completed a Western Pacific deployment. He served as a division officer on USS Oklahoma City (SSN 723) where he completed two deployments.

His staff assignments include duty at U.S. SEVENTH Fleet as the Director Maritime Headquarters, Assistant Chief of Staff for Training and Readiness, and Director of the Commander’s Initiatives Group. He also served as an action officer at U.S. Joint Forces Command and Joint Staff J7 Joint and Combined Warfighting Center, and on the staff of Commander, Submarine Development Squadron TWELVE as the squadron engineer.

His personal awards include a Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
