- A link is provided to view each ship's history from DANFS, "Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships," if it has been written as yet by the Naval Historical Center
- Reunion, Crew Contact and Website information is also provided, if available, as well as links to additional resources
- With rare exception submarines are numbered in a single series, designated SS, with variations including SSN (nuclear), SSBN, (strategic missile), AGSS (auxiliary) SSK (hunter-killer), SST (training). Some of the special types, i.e., SC (cruiser), SF (fleet) and SM (minelaying) series, were later renumbered in the standard SS series.
