240k | Albert Leroy David (18 July 1902 - 17 September 1945), son of Emmett F. and Martha David, was born in Maryville MO and enlisted in the Navy in 1919. He served
till 1939 when he transferred to the Fleet Reserve, but was recalled to active duty in late 1939. He was appointed Machinist in 1942, Ensign later that year and progressed to Lieutenant by
July 1943. In 1944 Lt. David was serving as Assistant Engineering and Electrical Officer aboard USS Pillsbury (DE 133) in Task Group 28.3 when they captured the German submarine U-505 off Cape Blanco, West Africa. Lt. David was awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery in this historic seizure. USS Albert David (DE 1050) (1968-1988) was the first ship named in his honor. (Click on the photo to see Lt.
