Because of structural twisting damage from the 5 June 1945 typhoon, USS Duluth was diverted to Guam for repairs with Pittsburgh, Blue, and Stockham from TF38.1. Duluth is seen in this set in drydock ABSD 6 between 14 June and 5 July. She was able to rejoin the carrier forces in mid-July. Photos by J R Eyerman, Life Magazine. Off Okinawa, TG 38.1 and TG 30.8, off Okinawa were overtaken by a typhoon. During this storm, the Pittsburgh lost 104 feet of her bow and the Duluth suffered twisted structural damage.
