President Joe Biden announced the names of two future Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carriers as the future USS William J. Clinton (CVN-82) and USS George W. Bush (CVN-83). Secretary of the Navy Carlos del Toro picked the names for the two carriers, as naming falls under the duties of the secretary of the Navy, according to two Navy officials. However, the White House made the announcement on Monday, 13 January 2025.

The future USS George W. Bush (CVN-83) honors President George Walker Bush, 43rd President of the United States of America, serving two terms from 2001 to 2009. This will be the first Navy vessel named for him.
