Heavy Lift Ship
  • Built in 1979 as the, Maritime Administration type C1-MT-123a Heavy Lift Ship Roll On/Roll Off Vessel MV Paul Bunyan, at Peterson Builders, Strugeon Bay, WI.
  • Launched, date unknown
  • MV Paul Bunyan served in commercial trade with American Heavy Lift Lines until 1987
  • Returned to the Maritime Administration in 1987
  • Laid up the Maritime Administration (MARAD) National Defense Reserve Fleet (NDRF),Beaumont, TX., 26 February 1987.
  • Acquired by the US Army Transportation Corps., 4 September 1987
  • Commissioned USAV Paul Bunyan (HLS-1), assigned to U.S. Army Transportation Center, Fort Eustis, VA., used as a training platform
  • Renamed MV James McHenry, November 1988, for the American patriot, member of the Continental Congress, and Secretary of War under both Presidents George Washington and John Adams.
  • Decommissioned, September 1993 and returned to MARAD for lay up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, James River, VA.
  • Downgraded to non-retention in February 2008
  • Final Disposition, sold for scrapping, date unknown, removed from the James River Reserve Fleet, 5 March 2015 toe be dismantled at Southern Recycling, New Orleans, LS.
