Sassaba Class District Harbor Tug:
  • Laid down, 15 December 1944 at Ira S. Bushey and Sons, Brooklyn, N.Y.
  • Launched in early 1945
  • Delivered and placed in service, 21 August 1945, as Tlingit (YTB-497) allocated to the New York Navy Yard
  • Reassigned to the Pacific Fleet, at Pearl Harbor
  • Reassigned to Far East duty in the summer of 1946 for China service from 11 July 1946 to 20 June 1947
  • Placed out of service on the west coast, 31 March 1948, laid up as part of the Pacific Reserve Fleet at Puget Sound Navy Yard
  • Reactivated, 17 November 1950, for service in the 17th Naval District
  • Assigned to Naval Station Kodiak, Alaska, from February 1951 to May 1957
  • Reassigned to the 12th Naval District at San Francisco in May 1957
  • Reclassified as Medium Harbor Tug YTM-497 in February 1962
  • Placed out of service, date unknown
  • Struck from the Naval Register in 1963
  • Final Disposition, fate unknown

    Tlingit 97k Tlingit (YTB-497) as seen from YO-77 while in a 10-ship convoy from Tsingtao, China to Guam in June 1947. Tlingit was coming alongside YO-77 to pick up a sick or injured seaman to transfer him to USS Cree (ATF-84), which was the lead ship and the only one with any kind of medical facilities.
