Pat Caharty


Strath Class Trawler:

  • Built in 1918 by Rennie Forrestt Shipbuilindg Engineering and Drydock Co., Ltd., Wivenhoe, Essex, England
  • Launched 8 October 1918
  • Acquired by the U.S. Navy and commissioned UST Pat Caharty 26 May 1919 at Grimsby Naval Base, England
  • Decommissioned 16 August 1919 at Brightlingsea, England and returned to the Admiralty
  • Sold in 1922 to Consolidated Fisheries of Grimsby, England and renamed Kirby
  • Sold in 1934 and renamed Buchans II
  • Taken over by the Admiralty in July 1940
  • Returned to her owners in August 1946
  • Fate unknown.

  • Length 127'
  • Beam 22' 6"
  • Draft 14' 4"
  • Speed 9.5 kts.
  • Complement 18
  • Armament: Small arms
  • Propulsion: One boiler, one 430ihp Amos and Smith triple-expansion steam engine, one shaft.
