Maple served both the U.S. Coast Guard and the Environmental Protection Agency

Zennia Class Lighthouse Tender:

  • Built in 1939 by Marine Iron and Shipbuilding Company, Duluth, Minnesota
  • Launched 29 April 1939
  • Commissioned USCGC Maple in June 1939
  • Designated WAGL-234 in 1942
  • Later reclassified as WLI-234
  • Decommissioned 1 June 1973
  • Transferred to the Navy 8 August 1973
  • Transferred to the Environmental Protection Agency at Detroit, MI 10 June 1974 and renamed RV Roger R. Simons
  • Sold in 1995
  • Fate unknown.

  • Length 122' 3"
  • Beam 27'
  • Draft 7' 6"
  • Speed 10 kts.
  • Complement 20
  • Propulsion: Two 400bhp General Motors diesel engines, two shafts.
