Winterswijk (ID 2567)


Freighter:

  • Built in 1914 by NV Scheepswerf Voorheen Jan Smit and Co., Albasserdam, Holland
  • Completed in July 1914
  • Acquired by the Navy 2 April 1918 at Key West, FL and commissioned USS Winterswijk (ID 2567) the same day
  • Decommissioned 27 April 1918 at Boston, MA, struck from the Navy list and returned to the United States Shipping Board for return to her owners, Erhardt and Dekkers of Rotterdam, Holland
  • Torpedoed and sunk 10 September 1941 by the German submarine U-432 off the southeastern coast of Greenland.
