Mundelta Class Freighter:

  • Built in 1917 by the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co., Newport News, VA
  • Delivered to the Munson Line 18 April 1918
  • Acquired by the Navy 20 April 1918
  • Commissioned USS Mundelta (ID 1301), 27 April 1918
  • Decommissioned 11 February 1919 and transferred to the United States Shipping Board for return to her owners
  • Sold in 1937 to a British firm based in Shanghai, China and renamed Munlock
  • Seized by the Japanese in 1941 and renamed Rizan Maru
  • Torpedoed and sunk 21 September 1944 by USS Searaven (SS 196).
