Calypso (SP 632)


Calypso served both the U. S. Navy and the Department of Commerce

Motorboat:

  • The second Calypso was built in 1909 by New York Yacht, Launch and Engine Co., Morris Heights, NY
  • Acquired by the Navy 23 June 1917
  • Commissioned 19 July 1917
  • Performed section patrol duties in northeastern U.S. waters
  • Transferred in September 1919 to the Bureau of Fisheries
  • Fate unknown.

  • Displacement 16 t.
  • Length 54'
  • Beam 10' 6"
  • Draft 3' 8"
  • Speed 9 kts.
  • Complement 11
  • Armament: One 1-pounder
  • Propulsion: One 20hp 4-cylinder Roland gasoline engine, one shaft.
