SC-1517 served the Navies of the United States and the Soviet Union.

SC-497 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 14 August 1943 by the Petersen Boat Works, Sturgeon Bay, WI
  • Launched 12 April 1944
  • Commissioned USS SC-1517, 3 June 1944
  • Transferred to the Soviet Union 6 July 1944 and reclassified BO-225
  • Placed in service in August 1944
  • Placed out of service 25 November 1946 and laid up
  • Reclassified as a firefighting vessel BRN-5, 17 October 1955
  • Scuttled 25 June 1956 off the Kildinsky reach by agreement with the United States.

  • Displacement 148 t.
  • Length 110' 10"
  • Beam 17'
  • Draft 6' 6"
  • Speed 21 kts.
  • Complement 28
  • Armament: One 40mm gun mount, two .50 cal. machine guns, two depth charge projector "K Guns," and two depth charge tracks
  • Propulsion: Two 1,540bhp General Motors (Electro-Motive Div.) 16-184A diesel engines, two shafts.
