SC-1285 served the Navies of the United States and the Soviet Union

SC-497 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 9 February 1943 as PC-1285 by the Elizabeth City Shipyards, Elizabeth City, NC
  • Reclassified SC-1285 and launched 17 April 1943
  • Commissioned USS SC-1285, 18 June 1943
  • Transferred to the Soviet Union 9 August 1943 and reclassified BO-203
  • Assigned to the Northern Fleet at Polyarny, Murmansk 30 October 1943
  • Used as a training vessel 15 January - 12 March 1945
  • Placed out of service and sunk 25 June 1956 at Kildinsky Reach in agreement with the United States.

    Specifications:

  • Displacement 148 t.
  • Length 110' 10"
  • Beam 17'
  • Draft 6' 6"
  • Speed 21 kts.
  • Complement 28
  • Armament: One 40mm gun mount, two .50 cal. machine guns, two depth charge projector "K Gun," two sets Mk 20 Mousetrap rails with four 7.2 projectiles and two depth charge tracks
  • Propulsion: Two 1,540bhp General Motors (Electro-Motive Div.) 16-184A diesel engines, two shafts.
