SC-763 served the Navies of the United States and Brazil
SC-497 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 23 March 1942 by W. A. Robinson, Inc., Ipswich, MA
  • Launched 25 September 1942
  • Commissioned USS PC-763, 20 October 1942
  • Transferred to Brazil 7 December 1942 and named Javarí (CS 51)
  • Reclassified SC-763 by U.S. Navy in April 1943
  • Reclassified J-1 after World War II
  • Ran aground in 1949
  • Decommissioned 29 September 1949 and scrapped.

  • Displacement 148 t.
  • Length 110' 10"
  • Beam 17'
  • Draft 6' 6"
  • Speed 15.6 kts.
  • Complement 28
  • Armament: One 3'/23 mount, two 20mm mounts, two Mousetrap depth charge projectors, two K-Gun depth charge projectors and two depth charge tracks
  • Propulsion: Two 880bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
