SC-662 served both the U. S. Navy and Coast Guard
SC-497 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 4 November 1941 by the Fisher Boat Works, Detroit, MI
  • Launched 11 April 1942
  • Delivered 10 June 1942 and commissioned USS PC-662
  • Reclassified SC-662 in April 1943
  • Rescued survivors of the U.S. freighter Melville E. Stone along with SC-1023 that was torpedoed 24 November 1943 by the German submarine U-516 about 100 miles northwest of Cristobal, Canal Zone
  • Transferred to the Coast Guard 11 October 1945
  • Commissioned USCGC Air Goose (WAVR 424), 23 October 1945
  • Struck from the Naval Register 16 November 1945
  • Sold 11 March 1948
  • Fate unknown.
