SC-497 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 24 February 1941 by the Fisher Boat Works, Detroit, MI
  • Christened by Miss Judy Berry and launched 24 October 1941
  • Delivered 18 March 1942 and commissioned USS PC-499
  • Reclassified SC-499 in January 1943
  • Transferred to the Coast Guard 20 August 1945
  • Commissioned USCGC Air Brant (WAVR 412), 11 October 1945
  • Struck from the Naval Register 28 November 1945
  • Sold 20 January 1948
  • Acquired in 1953 by Flying Fish Fleet, Inc. of Hampton Bays, NY for use as a fishing boat and named Air Brant
  • Acquired in 1956 by Perry B Duryea and Son of Montauk, NY for use as a freighter and renamed Lynn II
  • Acquired in 1957 by Lobster Transport, Inc. of Montauk
  • Operated in 1960 under the Nicaraguan flag
  • Fate unknown.

  • Draft 6' 6"
  • Speed 21 kts.

  • Armament: One 40mm gun mount, two .50 cal. machine guns, two depth charge projector "Y Gun," and two depth charge tracks
  • Propulsion: Two 1,540bhp General Motors (Electro-Motive Div.) 16-184A diesel engines, two shafts.
