SC-1 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Built by the Mathis Yacht Building Co., Camden, NJ
  • Commissioned USS PC-428, 28 December 1918
  • Decommissioned in March 1921
  • Loaned to the City of Baltimore [Maryland] 16 May 1921 for use as a Fireboat and named Cascade
    Naval Vessel Register of 1 January 1949 lists loan to Baltimore as February 1921
  • Reclassified SC-428 by U.S. Navy in April 1943
  • Returned to U.S. Navy custody in 1960
  • Fate unknown.

    Specifications:

  • Displacement 77 t.
  • Length 110'
  • Beam 13' 6"
  • Draft 6' 3"
  • Speed 18 kts.
  • Complement 17
  • Armament: One 3"/23 gun mount, two .30 cal. machine guns, and one depth charge projector "Y Gun"
  • Propulsion: Three 220shp Standard gasoline engines, three shafts.
