SC-1 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down by the International Shipbuilding and Marine Engine Co., Upper Nyack, NY
  • Commissioned USS SC-187 in late April/early May 1918
  • Sunk in a collision 4 August 1918 with the Norwegian Steamship Capto off the coast of Virginia, 11 miles northeast of Cape Charles Light vessel.

    Specifications:

  • Displacement 85 t.
  • Length 110'
  • Beam 14' 9"
  • Max Draft (fl) 5' 8"
  • Speed 18 kts.
  • Complement 26
  • Armament: One single 3"/23 gun mount, two .30 cal. machine guns, and one depth charge projector "Y Gun"
  • Propulsion: Three 220bhp Standard gasoline engines, three shafts.
