PGM-78


PGM-78 was built for Peru
PGM-71 Class Motor Gunboat:

  • Laid down as PGM-78 by Peterson Builders, Inc., Sturgeon Bay, WI
  • Launched 5 June 1965
  • Delivered 19 November 1965, transferred under the Military Assistance Program to Peru and named BAP Rio Sama (PC 11)
  • Transferred to the Coast Guard in 1975 and reclassified PC-222
  • Struck from the Peruvian list in 2001
  • Fate unknown.

  • Displacement 130 t.
  • Length 101'
  • Beam 22'
  • Draft 6' 8"
  • Speed 18 kts.
  • Armament: One 40mm mount, two twin 20mm mounts and two .50 cal. machine guns
  • Propulsion: Two 975bhp MB820 Mercedes Benz diesel engines/eight 250bhp General Motors 6-71 diesel engines, two shafts.
