PGM-34 was built for the Philippines.

PGM-33 Class Motor Gunboat:

  • Laid down as PGM-34 by Georgia Shipbuilding, Savannah, GA
  • Delivered 22 November 1954
  • Transferred to the Philippines and named RPS Sulu (PG 49)
  • Reclassified G-49
  • Decommissioned and struck from the Naval Register in 1974
  • Fate unknown.

    Namesake:

    Sulu (Tausug: Wilaya sin Lupa' Sug; Tagalog: Lalawigan ng Sulu) is a province of the Philippines in the Sulu Archipelago and part of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

    Its capital is Jolo on the island of the same name. Maimbung, the royal capital of the Sultanate of Sulu, is also located in the province. Sulu is along the southern border of the Sulu Sea and the northern boundary of the Celebes Sea
