PGM-12 served the Navies of the United States, the Republic of China, and the People's Republic of China.

PGM-9 Class Motor Gunboat:

  • Laid down as PC-1088, 31 August 1943 by George Lawley and Son, Inc., Neponset, MA
  • Reclassified as a Motor Gunboat, PGM-12 in August 1944
  • Launched 18 January 1945
  • Commissioned USS PGM-12, 24 April 1945
  • She served in Japanese waters soon after the end of World War II, supporting the occupation forces and taking part in minesweeping operations in the Tsushima Straits during late 1945 and early 1946
  • Transferred to the Republic of China on 30 June 1948 and named Tung Ping
  • Defected to the People's Republic of China when they took over in January 1949 and remained in service into the 1970s
  • Fate unknown.

  • Propulsion: Two 2,880bhp General Motors 16-278A diesel engines, Farrel-Birmingham single reduction gear, two shafts.
